General Contractor Fatigue – TV Commercial

One of our clients was feeling frustrated. He had talked to a lot of clients about working on projects for them, but he felt like they were worn out, tired of dealing with general contractors.

This wasn’t a one on one meeting, this was a table discussion with several other business owners. He mentioned that he felt like people had general contractor fatigue. I sat upright in my chair and just about laughed out loud. The rest of the table looked at me, I said, “hey let’s talk after this meeting.”

After the meeting I told him that General Contractor Fatigue definitely sounded like some kind of disease and that CM Pros was the cure. I told him that a mock-pharmaceutical style commercial would be amazing, and that I had never seen anything like that.

Without missing a beat he said that we should set up a time to make it happen. He was looking for a TV commercial and this sounded like exactly what he was looking for.

Below is the final TV commercial. There were various versions of different lengths and with slightly different endings, but this one is my favorite.

What is the difference between a TV commercial and a social media ad?

Here’s a simple way to explain it. A TV commercial can be a social media ad, but a social media ad is not always going to be a good TV commercial. Why is that?

  1. TV commercials are made with quality in mind. Even if they are supposed to look like social media content they are often shot in 4K with professional cameras, paid actors, great lighting and sometimes much more. This all looks great when posted on social media. Poorly shot social media content doesn’t always work well on a 4K TV screen.
  2. A TV commercial is made to be somewhat universal so that any viewer on any platform can see it and take action. Social ads are often made to be platform specific and play on ideas and trends that TV viewers may or may not understand.
  3. There are legal questions that surround TV commercials. Anything that is made for broadcast has specific rules and regulations it has to abide by from the FCC. Social media does have some rules, but they are fewer in number and rarely enforced. The FCC does not have any jurisdiction on social media as of yet. A social ad might do gangbuster numbers online, but then if it is moved to TV the creators may be in hot water for not following the law.

There are just a few examples of the important differences between a social media ad and a TV commercial. If you are interested in doing a TV commercial we’d love to chat and help you make it victorious!
